Tiny MIL-STD-1553 avionics interface to fit XMC and PMC embedded computing introduced by Holt
MISSION VIEJO, Calif., 14 Dec. 2016. Holt Integrated Circuits in Mission Viejo, Calif., is introducing the HI-2130 low profile 3.3-volt MIL-STD-1553 avionics databus interface terminal to fit Switched Mezzanine Card (XMC) and PCI Mezzanine Card (PMC) embedded computing modules.
This low profile device is electrically identical to Holt's existing HI-2130, integrating MIL-STD-1553 protocol logic, static RAM, dual bus transceivers and isolation transformers in one BGA package.
Measuring 15 by 15 by 4.4 millimeters, the device is among the world's smallest single-package 1553 terminal with integrated transformers, Holt officials say. The HI-2130 BGA package is available in RoHS-compliant and tin/lead configurations.
The HI-2130 supports 16-bit parallel bus or SPI 4-wire serial host interface in one BGA package. Holt designers eliminated external bus isolation transformers to reduce the board's size.

Each device contains a bus controller , a bus monitor terminal, and two independent remote terminals. Systems designers can enable combinations of these MIL STD-1553 terminal for single- or concurrent-terminal operation.
The enabled terminals communicate with the MIL-STD-1553 bus through dual bus transceivers and transformers. The user allocates on-chip 32K-by-16-bit static RAM between terminal modes to suit application requirements.
The RAM has an error detection-and-correction option for high-altitude or other applications subject to radiation-induced single-event upsets. Users also can configure the HI-2130 for automatic self-initialization via a dedicated SPI port from an external serial EEPROM memory.
