Rugged Intel-based embedded computer for military and industrial uses introduced by Crystal Group

HIAWATHA, Iowa, 6 March 2014. Crystal Group Inc. in Hiawatha, Iowa, is introducing the RE0814 rugged embedded computer for operations in harsh environments such as military, power-distribution, and industrial-automation applications.

The RE0814 rugged embedded computer has no moving parts and is fanless. It operates in temperatures as hot as 85 degrees Celsius, offers the Intel Core i3, i5, or i7 microprocessors, and is packaged in 11-by-14-inch 1U short chassis.

The RE0814's billet construction is made from machined strain hardened 6061T651 structural aircraft aluminum. It weighs 7.5 pounds with the ability to include four SATA 2.5-inch solid-state drives and five USB ports -- four on the back and one on the front.

The unit also is available with as many as four Ethernet ports and a VGA or DVI-I port. The RE0814 is for programs where size, weight, and power (SWAP) are essential requirements, company officials say.

It can be rack mounted or be bolted to surfaces such as walls or cabinet doors. and is tested to IEEE 1613 and IEC 61850-3 standards.
