3U VPX ATR embedded computing enclosure for UAVs and radar processing introduced by Elma

COCOA BEACH, Fla., 19 Jan. 2012. Elma Electronic Inc. in Fremont, Calif., is introducing the 3U VPX Mini air transport rack (ATR) electronic enclosure in a rugged OpenVPX platform for applications requiring much processing capability in a small size, such as unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), image processing, radar signal processing, and similar applications that require high bandwidth signal processing and data communications.

Elma introduced the rugged avionics enclosure this week at the at the Embedded Tech Trends conference in Cocoa Beach, Fla.

The core architecture of the embedded computing enclosure measures 133 by 180 by 250 millimeters, and comes with a three-slot, VITA 65 3U OpenVPX backplane that can be configured with solid-state data storage and a 250-Watt power supply. The unit can be modified to accommodate a plug-in version of the power supply module, providing as much as 350 Watts of power.

If a standard OpenVPX backplane profile cannot support user needs, a custom design can be defined and manufactured. All of the board products used in the pre-configured Mini ATR platform have been selected and tested for interoperability.
