COCOA BEACH, Fla., 16 Jan. 2012. Pentek Inc. in Upper Saddle River, N.J., is introducing the model 71760 four-channel, 200 MHz A/D XMC module based on the Xilinx Virtex-7 field-programmable grate array (FPGA) for unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), radar, data acquisition, and communication applications. Pentek introduced the FPGA board today at the Embedded Tech Trends conference in Cocoa Beach, Fla.
The model 71760, part of Pentek's Onyx embedded computing family, use the same modular I/O interfaces as the company's Virtex-6 FPGA Cobalt family, while boosting memory, logic, and I/O performance. The similarity helps developers port software developed for Cobalt modules to the corresponding Onyx modules, Pentek officials say.
The Onyx family include a doubling of the DDR3 memory in size and speed to four gigabytes and 1600 MHz. The PCI Express interface has been upgraded to Gen 3, delivering peak speeds to eight gigabytes per second.
The 71760 FPGA comes preconfigured with built-in functions for data capture, synchronization, tagging and formatting. For systems that require custom functions, IP can be developed using the Xilinx ISE Design Software and the Pentek GateFlow FPGA Design Kit. The Onyx architecture now includes enhanced FPGA loading modes to simplify live reconfiguration.
