Presagis optimizes avionics Solutions using Wind River's VxWorks DO-178B certification platform

AMSTERDAM, Netherlands 16 March 2009. Presagis officials announced a solution stack based on Wind River's family of VxWorks DO-178B platforms which helps developers mitigate risk and streamline the development of modern avionics systems.

Presagis made the announcement last week at the Avionics 2009 Conference & Exhibition in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.

The cockpit avionics stack combines the avionics graphics development software from Presagis with Wind River's DO-178B certification real-time operating system (RTOS). The combined platform is expected to reduce development costs, reduce project complexity, and improve productivity for avionics designers, Presagis officials say.

"Avionics designers traditionally have incurred significant risk when integrating HMI solution stacks for DO-178B certified environments," says Rob Hoffman, vice president and general manager for aerospace and defense at Wind River. "The Presagis design solution enables users to focus on the design and development of next-generation avionics content, and, when coupled with our proven runtime environments with COTS certification evidence, we expect our customers to significantly reduce the time needed for system testing and integration."

Presagis works closely with Wind River to ensure integration with its products, VAPS and VAPS XT, and the latest versions of Wind River's VxWorks 5, VxWorks 6, and VxWorks 653 operating systems platforms.

To simplify the deployment of graphics applications to the embedded system, Presagis human machine interface (HMI) tools leverage a technology called the Porting Layer. The Porting Layer, which is provided by Presagis or developed by the customer, initializes timers, callbacks and the display; it also includes graphic rendering commands. The Porting Layer also enables developers to create multiple display scenarios to increase testing capabilities. It allows VAPS- and VAPS XT-built HMIs to be ported to virtually any embedded target and to be optimized for VxWorks.
