HUNTSVILLE, Ala., 26 Jan. 2006. GE Fanuc Embedded Systems today announced a new multiprocessor PowerPC-based 6U VME board designed to provide high-performance digital signal processing solutions.
The NEXUS Forte is the latest member of the NEXUS family of multiprocessor VME products based on the PowerPC 7447A/7448 1.x GHz processors to be offered by GE Fanuc Embedded Systems. This new product delivers the performance required of the most demanding signal processing applications such as radar, sonar, signals intelligence and image processing.
The new NEXUS Forte platform will be offered in single, dual or quad processor configurations and will be available in commercial, extended temperature and rugged versions with air- and conduction-cooled options. The Forte features a flexible symmetric multiprocessing architecture that allows the processors to operate as a scalable processing resource managed under SMP Linux or as closely-coupled multiprocessors under VxWorks.
"The Forte is a significant extension of our NEXUS product line that introduces a key high-density multiprocessing capability that can be deployed in both benign and rugged environments," said R. Eugene Helms, GE Fanuc's business development director for Government Solutions. "It gives customers a powerful computing resource that can be used to meet a wide range of demanding embedded computing needs."
The NEXUS Forte platform is a powerful computing resource for a wide range of demanding embedded computing needs in communications, military and aerospace, homeland security, and life sciences/medical applications.
Key features of the NEXUS Forte include:
* single, dual or quad CPU configurations using the latest Freescale discrete PowerPC CPUs optimized for highest signal, image and data processing performance;
* one design with build options that accommodate commercial, rugged and conduction-cooled environments to maintain software compatibility across development and deployment environments;
* shared memory architecture with up to 1GB of DDR memory providing a 2.1GBps peak memory bandwidth;
* high performance I/O flexibility through dual PCI-X PMC sites;
* advanced VME communications and legacy VME system support with the Tundra Tempe 2eSST PCI-X bridge;
* Gigabit Ethernet available via front panel for commercial operation and for all environments through the ANSI/VITA 31.1 compliant interface over PO;
* ANSI/VITA 35 compliant PMC to P2 signal routing; and
* VxWorks and Linux BSP support with seamless operation with all GE Fanuc Embedded Systems' Multiprocessor PowerPC products under WingSpan(tm) software development suite.
