SAN JOSE, Calif., 8 Dec. 2006. Enea, a device software provider in San Jose, Calif., is introducing DSPNet -- a compact TCP/IP stack for the company's OSEck DSP real-time operating system.

The stack, optimized for deeply embedded applications with tight size and cost constraints, occupies less than 40 kilobytes of memory and can support IPv4, IPv6, and dual-mode IPv4/IPv6 traffic.

DSPNet supports raw IP/UDP/TCP BSD Sockets and provides a zero-copy API based on BSD Sockets. Enea will also offer a broad range of optional security and networking applications for the new stack.

"As DSPs are used in more complex networked environments, TCP/IP is becoming an integral part of the total DSP solution, particularly when Gigabit Ethernet is used as the local interconnect for DSP farms," says Karl-Gustav Niska vice president of product management at Enea.

OSEck (OSE Compact Kernel) is a DSP-optimized version of Enea's OSE RTOS. Occupying less than 8 kilobytes of memory (in a minimal configuration), OSEck delivers preemptive, event-driven real-time response with a context switching speed of 150 nanoseconds and a worst-case interrupt latency of 300 nanoseconds (assuming 850-MHz clock frequency).

OSEck also features message-based LINX interprocess communications (IPC) services that simplify the design, deployment and management of complex wireless applications spanning multiple DSPs.

DSPNet will initially be available for OSEck running on Texas Instruments' C64x DSP family and Freescale's Starcore family. For more information contact Enea online at www.enea.com.
