CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va., 29 Sept. 2010. GE Intelligent Platforms in Charlottesville, Va., is introducing the VME-6500 rugged VME multifunction I/O board for military applications such as radar processing, image capture and processing, and video tracking that can deliver in one chassis slot the analog I/O and digital I/O capabilities that previously could have occupied four slots.
The I/O board helps place data acquisition hardware as close as possible to the sensors. It operates over wide temperature ranges and can withstand shock and vibration.
The VME-6500 has eight analog input channels, eight analog output channels, 16 digital input channels, and 16 digital output channels. Each analog input channel is equipped with a 16-bit analog-to-digital converter, and each analog output channel with a 16-bit digital-to-analog converter.
Analog inputs are software-programmable, while analog outputs have programmable voltage and current rates, together with waveform generation. Digital input channels are capable of several voltages and current ranges, and have programmable input thresholds and de-bounce times. Digital outputs support high voltage and current drivers, and are protected for short circuit, over current and over temperature conditions. The VME-6500 is supported by Windows, Linux, and VxWorks.
