BOONE, N.C., 1 Jan. 2007. The TT Electronics IRC Wire and Film Technologies Division in Boone, N.C., has certified the company's HSF Series resistor, which provides secondary lightning protection for board-level applications, to GR1089 lightning strike specifications.
The device provides systems designers with a surface mount device that resists power surges. It is primarily for telecommunications applications.
Conventional devices that meet the GR1089 lightning strike specification are relatively bulky through-hole wire-wound components, says David Winkler, product manager at IRC. "Not only does the HSF Series resistor provide engineers with a smaller surface mount option, but it is as capable of handling strong surges as many larger devices."
The HSF Series resistors feature a power rating of 1 Watt at 70 degrees Celsius and a working voltage of 350 volts.
