CHELMSFORD, Mass., 21 April 2007. TEK Microsystems Inc. of Chelmsford Mass., is announcing the Tarvos VXS that combines six channels of 16-bit, 160 megasamples-per-second A-D conversion.
The module uses a field-programmable gate array (FPGA)-based digital signal processor in one slot along with one D-A converter output channel. Tarvos VXS provides a high-density processor for advanced signal generation in applications such as radar, electronic warfare, and mobile communications (related story).
The Tarvos comes in an ANSI/VITA 41.0 VXS card form factor. The A-D converters are linked into a Xilinx FPGA equipped with an advanced double data rate SDRAM memory architecture with a capacity of up to 5 gigabytes on one card.
The memory stories digitized or generated high-resolution waveforms while the customer programmable FPGA provides real time digital signal processing and triggering functionality. The FPGA also supports high speed off-board communications through two front panel high speed serial ports or eight serial links over the VXS standard P-zero connector onto the backplane.
A key feature of the Tarvos VXS is its support for multi-channel applications requiring synchronization and minimal skew between the channels. Triggering waveform outputs to an accuracy of 1 sample period are supported and the cards have been designed to be scaled into fully synchronized multi-board applications if very high channel counts are needed.
