Harsh-environment EBX single-board computer for aerospace and industry introduced by VersaLogic
TUALATIN, Ore., 10 Jan. 2017. VersaLogic Corp. in Tualatin, Ore., is introducing the VL-EBX-38 Viper EBX-format single-board computer for aerospace, homeland security, medical, industrial, and other harsh-environment embedded computing applications.
The Viper computer board typically uses 6 Watts of power and offers fanless operation over the industrial temperature range of -40 to 85 degrees Celsius.
The Viper is available in three performance levels: single-, dual-, and quad-core models. The quad-core model delivers more than twice the performance of systems using the "Montevina" Core 2 Duo processor, with a 38 percent reduction in power consumption, company officials say.
Viper provides on-board trusted platform module (TPM); a USB 3.0 port; voltage input of 5 volts or 9 to 15 volts. It is based on the industry-standard EBX form factor, which measures 5.75 by 8 inches.
Viper has no moving parts and was designed and tested to withstand extreme temperatures, high-influence, and vibration. This single board computer is an choice for applications that require a rugged, high quality product. The Viper has an industrial temperature Intel Atom E38xx processor optimized for performance and power balance.
The Viper’s on-board TPM security chip can lock out unauthorized hardware and software access. It provides a secure processing environment for applications in defense, medical, and industrial control that require enhanced hardware-level security functions. Additional security comes from built-in Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) processor instructions.
Viper supports dual Mini DisplayPort++ outputs as well as legacy VGA and one/dual-channel LVDS display outputs. Intel's advanced Gen 7 HD graphics engine provides graphics performance and can support two simultaneous 1080-pixel video streams.
On-board hardware acceleration is available for encode/decode of H.264, MVC, VP8, VC1/WMV9, and other standards. The graphics engine also supports dual display support, DirectX 11, Open GL 4.0, full HD video playback, and resolution to 2560 by 1600 pixels at 60 Hz.
On-board I/O ports include a USB 3.0 port, six USB 2.0 ports, dual 10/100 Ethernet, four serial ports, 32 digital I/O lines, eight 12-bit analog inputs, and four 12-bit analog outputs. Dual SATA interfaces support high-capacity rotating or solid-state drives.
Viper’s dual Mini PCI Express sockets allow on-board expansion with plug-in Wi-Fi modems, GPS receivers, and other mini cards such as MIL-STD-1553, Ethernet, and analog.
For stacking expansion using industry-standard add-on boards, the Viper supports classic PC/104-Plus expansion (ISA and PCI). The PC/104-Plus expansion site provides plug-in access to a wide variety of expansion modules from numerous vendors, all with bolt-down ruggedness.
