TORRANCE, Calif., 4 Aug. 2011. Aerospace and defense power electronics specialist Martek Power in Torrance, Calif., has been acquired by Cooper Bussmann in St. Louis to enhance Cooper Bussman's expertise in power electronics and power conversion products. Cooper Bussmann, which manufactures fuses for the electrical, electronics, and transportation industries, is a division of Cooper Industries plc (NYSE:CBE) in Dublin, Ireland, which manufacturers electrical products and has annual revenues of $5.1 billion.Cooper acquired Martek Power for $185.9 million. Martek Power designs and builds standard and custom power supplies and DC-DC converters for military, transportation, computing, medical, networking, telecommunications, and data storage applications. the deal involves all entities of the Martek Power Group, including electrical safety specialist Sefelec in Lognes, France.Cooper Bussmann also manufacturers inductors and transformers for power quality in electronic, industrial, and mobile wireless applications. The company also is involved in circuit and power electronics protection and power management products, including high reliability power conversion equipment. The deal became effective on 28 July.
Mike Innab, President of Martek US, will continue in his position with an expanded role, Martek Power officials say, adding that Martek Power will continue to operate as an independent entity owned by Cooper.
