SANTA CLARA, Calif., 5 Jan. 2011. Officials of LumaSense Technologies Inc. in Santa Clara, Calif., are seeking to improve their company's expertise in thermal imaging technology with their acquisition of L-3 Communications subsidiary InfraredVision Technology Corp. (ITC) in Buellton, Calif. Financial terms were not disclosed. LumaSense specializes in temperature and gas sensing technology.

The ITC acquisition will enable LumaSense to expand its offerings into public safety applications in security, traffic control, and firefighting. ITC produces vanadium oxide (VOx) microbolometer detectors for thermal imaging systems such as infrared cameras. The acquisition gives LumaSense additional capabilities to build thermal-imaging products for energy, emissions, and industrial applications.
