FALLS CHURCH, Va. 12 June 2012. General Dynamics (NYSE: GD) has completed its previously announced purchase of IPW Holdings, Inc., the parent company of IPWireless, Inc., on Friday, June 8. IPWireless, a provider of 3G and 4G LTE wireless broadband network equipment and solutions for public safety and military customers, has been renamed General Dynamics Broadband. It will operate as a subsidiary of General Dynamics C4 Systems, a business unit of General Dynamics. The value of the transaction has not yet been disclosed.
IPWireless develops 3G and 4G wireless broadband and broadcast solutions, including chipsets, devices and complete network infrastructure solutions, based on 3GPP, a widely used mobile standard. IPWireless also produces wireless-network components, user devices and end-to-end systems, making tools such as real-time fingerprint identification and high-resolution video more available. The company has customers in sectors such as government, consumer electronics, and more.
IPWireless is based in San Francisco, Calif., and has approximately 90 employees worldwide.
The acquisition had been approved by the boards of directors of both companies and was subject to normal regulatory review. The transaction was completed on schedule, falling directly inside the predicted time-frame of the third quarter of 2012.
General Dynamics Broadband produces 3G and 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) wireless broadband network components and user devices for end-to-end systems.
