Raytheon chooses Mercury for data storage and recording in upgrade of AN/TPY-2 ballistic missile defense radar

CHELMSFORD, Mass., 12 Aug. 2010.Missile defense systems integrators at the Raytheon Co. National & Theater Security Programs segment in Tewksbury, Mass., needed a rugged, high-speed data storage and data recording subsystem for the AN/TPY-2 radar system for theater ballistic missile defense. They found their solution from Mercury Computer Systems Inc. in Chelmsford, Mass.

The Raytheon AN/TPY-2 is the primary radar element in the U.S. Theater High-Altitude Air Defense (THAAD)ballistic missile defense system, and provides surveillance, fire control, and cueing to systems such as Patriot air-defense missile, as well as threat classification against tactical ballistic missiles, and kill assessment after intercept.
