High-poser laser beam controller to be provided by Raytheon for designating targets in atmospheric turbulence

WRIGHT-PATTERSON AFB, Ohio, 11 Aug. 2010. Military laser designers at Raytheon Co. in Marlborough, Mass., are designing a high-power laser beam controller to help designate targets in the presence of atmospheric turbulence that otherwise might degrade the laser's ability to maintain laser contact with the target.

WRIGHT-PATTERSON AFB, Ohio, 11 Aug. 2010.Military laser designers at Raytheon Co. in Marlborough, Mass., are developing a high-power laser beam controller to help designate targets in the presence of atmospheric turbulence that otherwise might degrade the laser's ability to maintain laser contact with the target.

Officials of the U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio, awarded Raytheon a $9.2 million contract Tuesday for a modular laser beam controller that operates with high electrical efficiency in a compact and lightweight form.
