Software development companies Artisan and Aonix merge to concentrate on safety-critical systems

SAN DIEGO, 24 Jan. 2010. Two major software tools companies are joining hands to create a new company called Atego to concentrate on mission- and safety-critical systems and software development tools applications.
Artisan Software Tools Ltd. in Cheltenham, England, and Aonix North America Inc. in San Diego merged last week and set up headquarters in San Diego. Artisan specializes in collaborative software development tools for software modeling of safety-critical embedded software systems, while Aonix is known for development tools and virtual machines for real-time/embedded Java and Ada.
Atego has operations in the U.S., United Kingdom, Germany, France, and Italy. The management, employees, and shareholders own most of the combined group.
James B. Gambrell, former chief executive officer of Artisan, is the Atego executive chairman who will focus on the company's strategic direction. Pierre Cesarini, former Aonix chief executive officer, is the Atego CEO; the existing management teams will merge into one.
