Application Note: Current Share (Parallel Operation) and Redundancy for VPT DC-DC Converters
Many modern power applications demand higher output power levels, making current share, also known as parallel operation, a critical feature in isolated DC-DC converters. Current share allows power designers to meet higher power requirements with smaller-sized individual isolated DC-DC converters by allowing the total load to be equally shared among other DC-DC converters in the current shared network. This function is utilized when the total load demanded by the system exceeds the load capacity of an individual VPT DC-DC converter.
Current share capabilities are available on several VPT DC-DC converter product families. This document will provide an overview of the current share function, how to optimize current share, examples of current share power system configuration, and how to make a parallel network redundant.
