Modelithics’ Co-Founder Dr. Lawrence Dunleavy Selected as IEEE Fellow

Jan. 22, 2025

Tampa, Florida (January 21, 2025) – Modelithics®, the industry leader in providing innovative and high-quality custom modeling and measurement services for RF, microwave, semiconductor, and millimeter-wave electronic devices is honored to announce its co-founder and current President and CEO, Dr. Lawrence Dunleavy, has been elevated to an IEEE Fellow by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).

An "IEEE Fellow" signifies the highest grade of membership within IEEE and is awarded to individuals who have demonstrated exceptional accomplishments in their field, making significant contributions to the advancement of engineering, science, and technology. This is considered a prestigious recognition within the technical community with only a very small fractional percentage of IEEE members attaining this status each year. Dr. Dunleavy’s citation reads “for contributions to commercial development of microwave device models and microwave education leadership. “

The first aspect of this citation is related to the success of Modelithics, founded in 2001 by Dr. Lawrence Dunleavy and Dr. Thomas Weller, in providing the development and worldwide distribution of high-accuracy simulation models that support a wide range of devices and simulation platforms. The co-founders are known worldwide for their expertise in microwave circuit design, characterization, modeling, and electromagnetics. Today, Modelithics provides standardized model libraries for commercial passive and active devices from over 75 vendors, supporting all the leading microwave simulation platforms.  It also serves the industry with a broad array of on-demand measurement and modeling services, including S-parameters, GaN & 3D modeling, noise parameters, pulsed IV, high-power RF testing, and source/load-pull.

“This is well-deserved recognition of Larry’s significant contributions to our microwave community, including advancing the state of the art in compact modeling and how future engineers are prepared for industry.” Dr. Weller, Co-Founder and IEEE Fellow, stated.

The second aspect of Dr. Dunleavy’s fellowship citation is related to his role as a Professor of Electrical Engineering in over three decades of educating thousands of students in wireless and microwave circuits and systems.  Most notably, he is recognized as being the co-founder, also with Dr. Weller and others of the Wireless and Microwave Information Systems (WAMI) Center at USF, and its strong and innovative hands-on education program.
WAMI graduates are sought after and have done exceedingly well in their industrial and for some academic, careers.

Dr. Dunleavy states: “I have an early resume whose stated goal was to be involved in forming a bridge between academia and industry. I have done so with the help of my awesome colleagues at USF, advisors, and the great team at Modelithics and I am thankful for the many successful collaborations I’ve enjoyed over the years with Tom Weller. I also am thankful for my wife and Modelithics CFO Holly Dunleavy for her incredible support of my career and for being a great business partner in the long-term success of Modelithics.”

About Modelithics, Inc.
Modelithics, Inc. (www.Modelithics.com) was formed in 2001 to address the industry-wide need for high-accuracy RF and microwave active and passive simulation models for use in Electronic Design Automation (EDA). Modelithics’ premium product is the Modelithics® COMPLETE Library, which includes the CLR Library™, containing measurement-based Microwave Global Models™ for a multitude of commercially available passive component families, as well as non-linear diode models, non-linear transistor models, and system-level component models. Modelithics’ services also address a wide range of custom RF and microwave measurement and modeling needs. Modelithics product offerings, which support multiple EDA software platforms, also include the Modelithics mmWave Library, Modelithics System Components Library™ the Modelithics COMPLETE+3D Library. Modelithics® is a registered trademark of Modelithics, Inc. Microwave Global Models™, System Components Library™, and CLR Library™ are also trademarks of Modelithics, Inc. The Modelithics Vendor Partner (MVP) Program allows for collaboration and open communication during the development of advanced data sets and models for commercially available microwave components and devices, with flexible sponsorship and distribution
arrangements for the resulting data and models. An example of such an arrangement is the Modelithics Qorvo GaN Library, a fully sponsored library distributed for free by Modelithics under the sponsorship of Qorvo®. Modelithics also offers a Standard and Custom Test Fixture and Accessory Product Line, including legacy parts from J Micro Technology for a family of thin film Alumina substrate components.
