New 8-Port Gigabit Ethernet Switch for Flight Test Instrumentation by Curtiss-Wright

ASHBURN, Va. – December 16, 2014 – Curtiss-Wright Corporation (NYSE: CW) today announced that its Defense Solutions division has introduced a new enhanced rugged 8-port Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) switch designed for use in airborne flight test instrumentation (FTI) applications. The NET/SWI/101 is designed to quickly and accurately interconnect FTI system elements over an Ethernet network. Designed and manufactured by Curtiss-Wright’s Avionics & Electronics Group, the NET/SWI/101 commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) subsystem is designed for use with the Company’s popular Acra KAM-500 data acquisition unit (DAU). Advanced features supported by the switch include bridging between PTP V1 and V2, live operation at power-up, and “any application layer” filtering to enable the user-defined forwarding of selected Ethernet frames to the desired network end node. Thanks to its simple and intuitive setup, the NET/SWI/101 lets FTI system designers easily add multi-port GbE network switching to their platform. It is ideal for transporting acquired parameters through the flight test network to the data sinks in a reliable, low latency and deterministic manner.

About the NET/SWI/101
Each of the NET/SWI/101 GbE network switch’s 8-ports operates in full-duplex mode only. They can be easily configured for 10BaseT, 100BaseTX, 1000BaseT link speeds or auto-negotiate. The NET/SWI/101 has a store-and-forward Xbar switching fabric that uses the Trivial File Transfer Protocol (TFTP) to specify multiple user-defined static forwarding tables and filtering configurations. Specific configurations are user selectable via the Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMPv2c). It also features an Xbar static forwarding table that defines how incoming Ethernet frames received on a given port are forwarded to the output of one or more egress ports. An embedded IEEE 1588v1 and 1588v2 PTP Grandmaster supports the use of a GPS input, a digital IRIG-B input, an analog IRIG-B input, or the internal free-running clock to provide the time source. Bridging between 1588v1 and 1588v2 domains is supported using a boundary clock.
