Airbus of Blagnac, France, and EADS-CASA in Madrid, Spain, were in the position of having to select core technology for the air-data system aboard the A400M military transport aircraft.
The companies opted to take advantage of SmartProbe technology offered by Goodrich Corp. in Charlotte, N.C.
The A400M’s air-data system delivers all the primary and standby air-data information that is required by the aircraft.
The SmartProbe air-data architecture incorporates multifunction sensing probes, pressure sensors, and processing capabilities. The number of discrete sensor installations is reduced, lending to improved reliability and reduced weight compared to traditional air data systems.
This contract marks the first European military program to use the SmartProbe system, and the second time Goodrich technology has been selected for the A400M. For more information, visit www.goodrich.com.
