Transistor Devices Inc. (TDI) in Cedar Knolls, N.J. is introducing a lightweight, man- or vehicle-transportable 2-kilowatt uninterruptible AC power supply (UPS) that uses high-performance lithium-ion battery technology to provide reliable AC power in the field for critical ground-mobile, airborne, and shipboard electronics operating in severe conditions. The UPS provides regulated 115 volts AC 50/60 Hz power from several power sources or from its internal lithium-ion battery for 20 minutes of silent operation with a seamless switchover upon prime power loss. The power incorporates a sealed “wind tunnel” cooling scheme that shields electrical components from airborne contaminants such as dirt, blowing sand, salt spray, and even NBC wash-down while providing ample thermal management for highly reliable operation complying with all applicable military standards. The UPS is parallelable/scalable for higher power needs with a built-in battery charger, power conditioner, and microcontroller that automatically senses and adjusts the battery charge voltage for maximum operating life. The system achieves a 50 percent reduction in weight, has more than three times the operating life, requires no maintenance, and has virtually the same cost per cycle when compared to a conventional lead-acid battery system, company officials say. At 65 pounds, the UPS is a portable, battlefield-ready unit that delivers a sine-wave output from a variety of power sources. For more information contact TDI online at www.tdipower.com.
