The Canadian coast guard, intent on upgrading its fleet, investigated the latest offerings in the area of navigation technology.
Canada’s coast guard settled on a solution, placing an order with Saab TransponderTech AB of Solna, Sweden, for 141 differential global positioning system (DGPS) receivers.
The Canadian coast guard intends to replace the stand-alone DGPS receivers installed on its vessels-including icebreakers, buoy tenders, fisheries patrol vessels, and search-and-rescue cutters-with the Saab DGPS antennas and sensors.
The new receivers combine with the coast guard’s existing Saab R4 automatic information systems (AIS) to provide a more complete shipboard navigation solution with a common user interface. For more information, visit www.transpondertech.se.
