Physical Optics Corp. in Torrance, Calif., is offering the Wireless Personal Information Carrier (WPIC) system, a dog-tag-size device that is a wireless data-storage unit able to hold data representing as many as 20 years of medical records. This device can give doctors instant access to data without the need for physical contact. The vital records, including blood type, allergies, doctor’s comments, and even audio and video files, can transmit securely and wirelessly to as far away as 10 yards from a wounded soldier or injured civilian. Advanced compression technology is a key element in the WPIC’s ability to store, read, and transmit images, medical files, audio, and video data without any perceptual loss of resolution, company officials say. The device has a wireless interface and mini-USB port for compatibility with off-the-shelf commercial and government products. For more information contact Physical Optics online at www.poc.com.
