Leaders in the Canadian Department of National Defense needed navigation and flight instruments for the CP-140 Aurora Modernization Project.
They found a solution with CMC Electronics Inc. in Montreal. CMC Electronics is the avionics management system supplier and systems integrator for the contract, valued at approximately $80 million (Canadian).
Canada ratified in December that CMC Electronics had procured, integrated and proved compliance for the new avionics suite now installed on three prototype CP-140 aircraft.
The CP-140 Aurora is the Canadian version of the American P-3 Orion long-range patrol and antisubmarine warfare turboprop aircraft.
This program represents a major initiative aimed at sustaining the CP-140 Aurora’s long-term capabilities. The CP-140 long-range patrol aircraft must support combined multinational missions as well as independent assignments in domestic and international, civilian and military scenarios.
