AMD Inc. of Sunnyvale, Calif., is offering flash memory as "known good die" products, which means the devices are available in die form, guaranteed at temperature for functionality and speed, and with the same quality and reliability as packaged products. Buying flash memory in die form enables designers to add flash memory with a small footprint to the end system, which conserves board space. Unpackaged die also enables the designer to bond a chip on a substrate with one or more other chips as multichip modules. Potential applications include global positioning systems, modems, and automotive control systems.
