LANCASTER, Pa., 31 May 2005. Herley Industries, Inc. announced today that it has received three contract awards to supply microwave technology for the following applications:
-- U.S. Air Force air-to-air missile program.
-- U.S. Navy's "Coyote" Supersonic sea-skimming target missile (SSST).
-- High-speed commercial communication systems.
"The premier U.S. Air Force air-to-air missile program has been in production for over 20 years," said John M. Kelley, president of Herley. "Continuing technical improvements being made to the missile should extend the life of this program well into the future. We are pleased to play a key role in this important program. Herley has been involved since the missile programs inception, with almost every Herley division participating in this program.
The SSST will begin production and is expected to be a multi-year program. The Coyote gives the U.S. Navy an increased variety of anti-ship cruise missile scenarios, since it is capable of achieving cruise velocity of Mach 2.5 while traveling at just 15 meters above the sea surface, he said.
Herley's microwave and millimeter wave expertise has both defense and commercial applications, Kelley said.
The company will do some of the work at its Communication Techniques, Inc. (CTI) subsidiary, in Whippany, N.J. CTI was a supplier to systems providers prior to Herley's acquisition of the company in March 2004, and is now expanding its capabilities to include integrated assemblies, wave sources, and synthesizers for defense and aerospace companies.
Kelley continued, "All of Herley's divisions have enjoyed a period of strong bookings which should be reflected in our third quarter. Innovative Concepts and Micro Systems have been solid contributors and they should continue to be active in their business segments going forward. We expect new business booking activity to continue at a healthy pace during the fourth quarter of fiscal 2005."
