REDSTONE ARSENAL, Ala., 28 June 2005. Raytheon Co. in Tucson, Ariz., won a $69.8 million U.S. Army sole-source contract modification June 23 to build TOW bunker-buster missiles.
The TOW bunker buster is a variant of the Raytheon TOW 2A tube-launched, optically tracked, wire-guided missile that has been in service since the 1970s.
The new bunker-buster variant is designed to defeat field fortifications, bunkers, and urban structures, has a range of slightly more than two miles. It is to arm the Army's anti-tank guided missile variant of the Stryker combat vehicle.
Awarding the contract was the Army Missile Command at Redstone Arsenal, Ala. The contract number is W31P4Q-04-C-0061. Work is to be finished in late 2008.
