BIRMINGHAM, Ala., 11 July 2005. Pemco Aeroplex announced today that it is part of an L-3 Communications team that has been awarded a contract from the U.S. Navy to sustain the P-3 Orion maritime patrol and antisubmarine warfare aircraft.
The award teams Pemco Aeroplex with L-3's Integrated Systems subsidiary for the Navy's P-3 Sustainment, Modification and Improvement Programs.
Pemco and L-3 will perform phased depot maintenance, special structural inspections/repairs, and selected avionics modifications for the Navy. The contract is for one base year with four option years. The contract has a $104 million base year ceiling against which task orders will be issued.
While the KC-135 has been the mainstay of business in the last 10 years for Pemco, the company has a long history of maintenance on a wide-range of military aircraft and has previously worked on the P-3.
"We have been eagerly anticipating this award since the announcement of our partnership with L-3," said Ron Aramini, president and CEO of Pemco Aviation Group, Inc.
"We believe that our teaming efforts to provide the U.S. Navy a reliable, cost effective solution have been recognized.
