FLIR Systems introduces next-generation explosives detection

PORTLAND, Ore., 23 May 2011. FLIR Systems Inc. has introduced the next generation of its handheld explosives detector Fido NXT, redesigned to provide expanded explosives detection capabilities in a more compact, rugged device. The lightweight system is designed to deliver fast, accurate, and consistent explosives detection through a simplified user interface and multimodal design suitable for users of any experience level.

“Explosives and IEDs continue to provide a detection challenge for our forward deployed military as well as law enforcement agencies,” says Bill Sundermeier, president of FLIR Detection & Protection.

All-weather and day/night capabilities enable use of the Fido NXT during covert operations or screening in high-risk, high-threat environments.

More than 3,000 Fido detectors are currently fielded around the world.
