U.S. Government agency orders mobile x-ray systems from Rapiscan Systems for cargo and vehicle inspection
HAWTHORNE, Calif., 2 October 2006. OSI Systems Inc., a provider of specialized electronic products for critical applications in the Security and Healthcare industries, announced that its Security and Inspection division, Rapiscan Systems received from a U.S. Government agency a $4.6 million contract for multiple cargo and vehicle Inspection systems as well as mobile x-ray systems.
Under the terms of the contract, Rapiscan Systems will provide multiple systems including the relocatable Rapiscan Eagle Gantry and Rapiscan 536 mobile x-ray systems. The systems are to be deployed at multiple border crossings internationally to provide mobile inspection of baggage, parcels, and vehicles for contraband and threat items.
The Rapiscan Eagle Gantry incorporates Rapiscan's proven high-energy x-ray imaging technology in a rail-mounted inspection system capable of rapid, automated screening of dense cargo and vehicles. The x-ray source and detectors are mounted on an electric-powered gantry that runs on rails.
The system automatically scans unoccupied vehicles parked between the rails as the gantry moves over them. The length of rails determines the number of vehicles that can be scanned in a single pass. The gantry is controlled from a nearby or remote facility, where the x-ray images are sent for examination and evaluation. The relocatable unit can be disassembled and shipped to another location requiring only that a set of rails be laid at the new site.
The Rapiscan Mobile 536 provides a self-contained mobile x-ray screening facility that can be used to create a mobile checkpoint for the rapid screening of baggage and parcels. The x-ray system is mounted in durable van enabling immediate deployment and screening at many locations.
