    Esterline CMC Electronics’ GPS Receiver selected by Lufthansa Airlines for A340 and B747 retrofit

    FARNBOROUGH, England, 23 July 2010. Lufthansa Airlines selected the Esterline CMC Electronics (CMC) IntegriFlight CMA-5024 Global Positioning System (GPS) Landing System Sensor for the retrofit of eleven Airbus A340 and six Boeing B747 aircraft. Replacement of the first-generation GPS receivers previously used on these aircraft with the CMA-5024, will enable Lufthansa to operate these aircraft in compliance with new Automatic Dependent Surveillance - Broadcast (ADS-B) airspace requirements, such as those in force over vast areas of northern Canada.

The CMA-5024 solution is certified for operation with the Space Based Augmentation System (SBAS), also known as the Wide Area Augmentation System (WAAS) in the U.S. and the European Geostationary Navigation Overlay Service (EGNOS) soon to be introduced in Europe. CMC's solution supports aircraft operations to the tightest navigation standards of RNP0.1 as well as GPS-based precision approach operations known as LPV or Localizer Performance with Vertical Guidance.
