Rad-hard power electronics: M.S. Kennedy introduces linear regulators for harsh environments

LIVERPOOL, N.Y., 12 May 2010. M.S. Kennedy Corp. in Liverpool, N.Y., is introducing the radiation-hardened MSK5978RH linear regulators, which are soon to be available in Class "V" or industrial versions.

LIVERPOOL, N.Y., 12 May 2010. M.S. Kennedy Corp. in Liverpool, N.Y., is introducing the radiation-hardened MSK5978RH linear regulators, which are soon to be available in DSCC Class Vrad-hard or industrial versions.

MIL-PRF-38535 qualification testing for Class "V," an operating range of -55 to 125 degrees Celsius, and a hermetically sealed surface mount 10-pin ceramic flat pack make the rad-hard MSK5978RH suitable for high-reliability electronics uses and applications in harsh radiation environments.

The MSK5978RH regulator will deliver as much as 0.6 amps output current with a typical dropout voltage of 0.3 volts. These regulators are single resistor adjustable with an output voltage range down to zero volts. An input to output differential voltage up to 26 volts provides versatility for a wide range of applications, company officials say. Tight line and load regulation performance ensure output voltage accuracy.

These regulators have full protection with current and thermal limiting. Radiation performance curves for TID testing will be generated for all radiation testing performed by MS Kennedy.
