The platform, dubbed AI Wingmate, includes a dedicated learning module for FLIGHT DECK, the company’s lean operating model.

EVENDALE, Ohio - GE Aerospace in Evendale, Ohio has introduced "AI Wingmate," an internal artificial intelligence (AI)-powered tool designed to support its 52,000 employees. The platform aims to enhance productivity, collaboration, and innovation across the company’s operations.

Developed in partnership with Microsoft, AI Wingmate operates on Azure AI, including the Azure OpenAI Service, providing secure and compliant tools for employees. The system enables staff to engage in interactive conversations with the AI, generating new ideas and solutions for the aerospace industry.

Since its launch in June, the AI system has facilitated about 500,000 interactions, including searches and queries, and processed more than 200,000 pages for AI-driven chats.

"The launch of AI Wingmate will transform employee productivity, allowing our people to spend more time solving our customers’ toughest problems," said David Burns, GE Aerospace’s Chief Information Officer. "Generative AI is changing the way we all work, enabling us to be more productive with our daily work tasks than ever before."

Nick Parker, Microsoft’s President of Industry and Partner Sales, emphasized the broader impact, stating that over 60,000 businesses globally are utilizing Azure AI. Parker added that the collaboration with GE Aerospace is already delivering results.

GE Aerospace plans to expand AI Wingmate’s capabilities with a new module focused on FLIGHT DECK, the company's proprietary lean operating model. The tool is part of GE Aerospace’s ongoing investment in AI, which has helped the company double its AI investments and secure numerous patents in the aviation industry.

"As our workforce continues to become familiar with AI Wingmate, it will become an increasingly more valuable partner over time for GE Aerospace employees," added Burns. "We are particularly excited about plans to launch a new generative AI-based module exclusively dedicated to FLIGHT DECK, our proprietary lean operating model that is the foundation of how we work. The generative AI platform will serve as a vehicle for employees to learn about FLIGHT DECK and its ten fundamentals."
