Military & Aerospace Electronics recognizes VPT as innovator awardee in rad-hard space power electronics
NASHUA, N.H. – Industry judges have named the SGRB series of DC-DC converters from VPT Inc. in Blacksburg, Va., as a platinum award recipient in the Military & Aerospace Electronics and Intelligent Aerospace 2019 Technology Innovators Awards.
The SGRB DC-DC converter is a commercially available gallium nitride (GaN)-based, space-qualified radiation tolerant power electronics device that achieves efficiencies as high as 95 percent.
It is for applications facing the harsh radiation environments of space, and includes a fixed-frequency reduced voltage switching topology for low input and output noise. This makes it well-suited for space-borne telecommunications where high efficiency, low noise, and radiation tolerance are imperative.
The Military & Aerospace Electronics and Intelligent Aerospace 2019 Technology Innovators Awards are in three tiers -- ranging from platinum, the highest, to the gold awards, and finally to the silver awards -- and are based on the recommendations of an independent panel of industry judges.
The SGRB series has been characterized to total ionizing dose of 100 krads, including enhanced low dose rate sensitivity, and single event effects performance to 85 MeV/mg/cm2. The SGRB series features an integrated EMI filter, 100 volts input, and 28-volt 400-Watt output, and is rated for full power operation in temperatures from -35 to 85 degrees Celsius.
The SGRB series is designed for applications facing the harsh radiation environments of space, and includes a fixed-frequency reduced voltage switching topology for low input and output noise in applications like space telecommunications.
