TORRANCE, Calif., 15 June 2011. Martek Power in Torrance, Calif., is introducing the MW75S 75-Watt AC-DC front end power supply for military and commercial avionics applications. The MW75S power electronics device offers active power factor correction (PFC) that improves efficiency by reducing harmonic content aligning the incoming current's phase angle to keep it in phase with the line voltage. PFC circuitry also reduces wave shape distortion, which keeps power demands relatively low to enable use of small, lightweight electrical wiring. The Martek Power MW75S power supply is designed to provide clean, efficient power to military aircraft radars, sensors, weapon systems, and cockpit displays. The power-conditioning device also provides efficient power to commercial airliner environmental systems, galley equipment, cockpit displays, communication gear, weather radar, and in-flight entertainment systems, Martek officials say.
Active PFC and a built-in EMI filter helps eliminate the need for external filters and shielding. The device provides a rated 75 Watts of output power from a universal single-phase wide input range from 90 to 265 volts AC at 47 to 440 Hz. The converter provides isolated 2, 3.3, 5, 12, 15, or 28-volt DC outputs. The MW75S has a power factor of 0.99 and efficiency of 80 percent at full load.
Martek Power has certified the MW75S to military specifications for aircraft. The device comes in a five-sided continuous steel case measuring 3.44 by 5.16 by 0.85 inches, The unit also meets CE101 and CE102 of MIL-STD-461 for conducted EMI. Line harmonics meet MIL-STD-1399 for 60 Hz or 400 Hz. The MW75S also meets MIL-STD-704E and MIL-STD-810.
