MUNICH, 11 Nov. 2014. Crane Aerospace & Electronics officials in Redmond, Wash., are unveiling several new power electronics products well suited to commercial aircraft, military aircraft, and civil and defense space platforms during Electronica in Munich, Germany, this week.

Crane Aerospace & Electronics is introducing four new Interpoint products at Electronica 2014: MFK Series 25-watt, MTR 50 Series 30-watt, MFX Series 50-watt, and MWR Series 35-watt DC-DC converters. The new solutions offer conversion from 16 volts to 50 volts to 1, 2, or 3 outputs from 1.8 volts to 28 volts. All have magnetic feedback, an inhibit function, and are packaged in hermetically sealed cases.

“These new products reflect hundreds of hours of feedback from customers on what’s needed in the next-generation, high-reliability DC-DC converters,” describes Ed Fuhr, vice president of Power Solutions at Crane Aerospace & Electronics in Redmond, Wash. “That includes industry-leading efficiency and power density, support for a wide range of input and output voltages, quiet operation and more.”

New to the Crane Aerospace & Electronics Power Solutions portfolio are:

Interpoint MFK Series 25-watt DC-DC converter. The MFK Series packs up to 25 watts in a 0.6 cubic inch case with up to 87 percent efficiency. It accepts a wide input range of 16 to 50 volts and provides single and dual outputs ranging from 1.8 to 28 volts. Magnetic feedback and operation over -55°C to +125°C ensures reliable performance. “The new MFK Series combines key performance advantages power designers are looking for: high reliability and efficiency, support for a wide range of input and output voltages and quiet operation, all in a compact package,” says Ed Fuhr, vice president of Power Solutions at Crane Aerospace & Electronics.

Interpoint MFX Series 50-watt DC-DC converter. The newly designed MFX Series provides up to 50 watts in a 0.92 cubic inch case with efficiency over 90 percent. The input voltage of 16-50 volts can also withstand transients of 80 volts for one second, has ±10% trimmable 3.3 and 5 volt outputs and operates -55°C to +125°C. “Our customers have been telling us they need converters with more power in a smaller footprint. The MFX Series delivers that and more, including the industry’s best efficiency in a high reliability hybrid as well as support for a wide range of input and output voltages,” explains says Ed Fuhr, vice president of Power Solutions at Crane Aerospace & Electronics.

A series of enhancements to the Interpoint MTR Series of 30-watt, high-reliability DC-DC converters. The MTR 50 provides up to 30 watts in single or dual outputs, a wide input range of 16-50 volts and withstands transients up to 80 volts. Magnetic feedback, inhibit and synchronization functions and operation over -55°C to +125°C ensures reliable performance in demanding environments. The case is 0.92 cubic inches. According to Ed Fuhr, vice president of Power Solutions at Crane Aerospace & Electronics: “the main improvements were to expand input voltage range support by 20 percent to 50V, as well as provide more robust input transient protection, now up to 80V, without otherwise affecting the form, fit or function of the product. The enhanced MTR Series now meets the input voltage transient requirements of MIL-STD-704A, DO-160 and other international standards.”

The MTR Series is one of the most widely used high reliability dc-dc converters in aerospace and defense applications. Available in flanged or non-flanged, the MTR Series singles and duals provide up to 30 watts in a small, 2.1 by 1.1 by 0.4 inch (slightly larger for flanged) hermetically sealed case. Fully isolated magnetic feedback, inhibit and synchronization functions and operation over the full military temperature range of -55°C to +125°C ensure reliable performance in demanding environments. The MTR Series are available on defense, land and maritime (DLA) standard microcircuit drawings (SMDs).

Interpoint MWR Series triple 35-watt DC-DC converter. The MWR Series offers up to 35 watts in a 1 cubic inch case with up to 85 percent efficiency. It accepts a wide input range of 14-50 volts and up to 80 volts transient for up to one second. The MWR has independent regulation of main/auxiliary outputs. “Our customers have long enjoyed the flexibility and versatility of our multiple output converters. The MWR carries on that tradition, delivering industry leading performance in terms of power density, efficiency, input and output voltage range, and quiet operation, all in the same footprint as earlier generation products,” says Ed Fuhr, vice president of Power Solutions at Crane Aerospace & Electronics.
