LANCASTER, Pa., 23 March 2005. Herley Industries, Inc. announced today that it has received a contract award in excess of $1.7 million to supply radio beacon sets for the U.S. Navy's F/A-18 E/F "Super Hornet." Herley and Sierra Nevada Corp. are working together on this next generation landing system.
Herley's involvement in the F/A-18 E/F program began with the Navy's initial multi-year contract for 222 "Super Hornets" with Boeing. The Navy has awarded Boeing a follow-on five-year procurement through GFY 2009. The "Super Hornet" is in full production for the Navy and Marines, replacing older aircraft in the fleet.
"With the 300 set ID/IQ contract in place, we expect consistent contract awards to supply the F/A-18 E/F program. We believe the combination of strong Congressional support along with the F/A-18 being a high priority program for the Navy will result in an extended production run for Herley," said John M. Kelley, Herley's president.
"We are working and communicating well with Sierra Nevada and the Navy as this program continues to move forward. This is a very important program for us, and we will continue to provide all the resources necessary to fully support this program."
