WASHINGTON, 13 June 2005. U.S. Navy officials are seeking to improve their understanding of radio frequency waveforms in the Navy Cooperative Engagement Capability (CEC) program.
Toward that end, the Navy is awarding an $8.4 million contract modification to the Raytheon Co. Network Centric Systems division in St. Petersburg, Fla., for investigation and study of CEC waveforms.
The CEC is a maritime system designed to network sensor information so that Navy commanders can blend information from several sensors and make the best use of ambiguous or incomplete information.
A better understanding of CEC waveforms may help designers improve the efficiency of the CEC or help integrate CEC information with other military systems military leaders move toward a transformational force and network-centric warfare.
Raytheon is expected to complete its CEC waveform investigations by next February. Awarding the contract June 9 was the U.S. Naval Sea Systems Command in Washington.
