QUANTICO, Va., 14 Oct. 2005. U.S. Marine Corps. leaders are hiring the Harris Corp. RF Communications Division in Rochester, N.Y., to provide the AN/PRC-117F(C) Multiband, Multimission, Manpack Radio.
The PRC 117F is a software-defined radio, covering the 30 to 512 MHz frequency spectrum, with embedded communications and NSA certification.
The radio has dual data capability, supporting high-performance waveform (HPW) and legacy-based data systems. HPW enhances the operator's data transfer capability by transferring large files at high speed on line-of-sight and satellite communications channels.
The radio's operator interface allows programming and control for as many as 110 nets.
Other PRC-117F features include: storage for as many as 170 Transec and encryption keys, multiband SCAN, built-In-test, cross band/cross mode retransmit, simultaneous voice, data/VPOD, PC radio programming application (RF-6550F), radio-to-radio cloning, Situational Awareness, external PLGR and NMEA-183 GPS interface, to accept Time-of-Day input and position viewing from the KDU.
Harris is doing the work under terms of a $77.7 million contract awarded Oct. 13 from the Marine Corps Systems Command at Quantico Marine Base, Va. The contract number is M67854-06-A-7001.
