ST. LOUIS, 12 Oct. 2005. Systems & Electronics Inc. (SEI) recently received purchase orders valued at approximately $6.9 million for 31 manportable surveillance and target acquisition radar (MSTAR) systems from Northrop Grumman Mission Systems sector, Carson, Calif.
MSTAR is low-power ground surveillance radar that provides wide-area coverage in all weather conditions, night or day, to a maximum range of 25 miles. The system locates moving targets and uniquely classifies them as personnel, tracked or wheeled vehicles.
MSTAR is ideally suited for a deployable perimeter security application or as part of an integrated security system for force protection, border surveillance and asset protection. It can also meet various Homeland Security missions where intrusion detection, border surveillance and perimeter security are needed to protect power generation facilities, airports, testing ranges, dams and other critical infrastructure assets. MSTAR is deployed in both fixed site strategic and transportable tactical applications.
The radar systems will be used in a variety of surveillance and security applications for multiple Northrop Grumman customers. In addition to fulfilling existing orders, some units will be maintained as a base stock to effectively deliver against small orders on a timely basis or to use for demonstration purposes.
"We're pleased to support Northrop Grumman as the company responds to its customers' needs for advanced asset protection solutions," said Gerald A. Potthoff, Engineered Support vice chairman and CEO. "The MSTAR continues to be viewed as a critical element within the security and surveillance systems used for high-value asset protection. More than 900 MSTAR radars are in service throughout the world."
