High-voltage, SMPS capacitors for power conversion and conditioning introduced by AVX
GREENVILLE, S.C., 4 March 2015. AVX Corp. in Greenville, S.C., is introducing the RV series of RoHS-compliant series of high-voltage, DIP-leaded stacked SMPS capacitors for power conversion and conditioning, motors and motor drives, and medical spectrometry.
Rated for 1,000 to 5,000 volts and capacitance values spanning 100 picofarads to 15 microfarads, the RV series power electronics devices have low ESR and ESL, low DC leakage current, high current handling capabilities, high frequency performance, and capacitance retention with frequency.
Available in three dielectrics (C0G, N1500, and X7R) and six case sizes with five maximum height dimensions spanning 0.12 to 0.65 inches, the RV series is for a broad range of high voltage applications.
The RV series stacked SMPS capacitors are suited for use on the AC input lines of AC-DC converters in the power supplies of spectrometers and ultrasound, CT, and MRI equipment, as well as on the high voltage signal amplifiers between the transmitters and the analog to digital converter transducers in that same equipment.

They are similarly suited for commercial and industrial air, food, and water quality analysis equipment, radiation detectors, and the types of baggage- and body-scanning equipment employed by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
Further, the versatile, RoHS compliant RV series also can be used as I/O filtering and bulk storage capacitors in high-voltage SMPS, as DC blocking capacitors, as DC link capacitors in AC/AC and DC-AC motor drive inverters, as power conditioning capacitors in DC-DC and AC-DC converters, and as start-and-run capacitors in AC induction motors.
