HARRISBURG, Pa. – TE Connectivity in Harrisburg, Pa., is introducing a cost-optimized backshell for the company's DMC-MD single module connector for commercial aircraft in-flight entertainment, cabin, and avionics systems.

The new backshell offers a cost-saving addition to TE's existing DEUTSCH DMC-MD single module series product line. Its design is hermaphroditic (identical halves) and includes two stainless steel self-tapping screws, which eliminates the need for thread locking screws.

The molded-in TE logo and part number reduce additional manufacturing steps and cost. The design also enhances the gripping action on the back of the connector for ease in mating and unmating of the connector. The backshell is compatible with standard aerospace-qualified DMC-MD single series connectors.

"By eliminating thread locking screws and molding our logo and part number on the connector, we've created a simplified, less expensive connector with no loss in performance," says Christian Cavailles, product manager at TE Connectivity's aerospace, defense and marine segment.
