High-stability gimbal mounts for use with heavy cameras, telescopes, lasers, and antennas introduced by OES
VAN NUYS, Calif. – Optimal Engineering Systems Inc. (OES) in Van Nuys, Calif., is introducing four AU270-YPR high-resolution, high-load, high-stability three-axis gimbal mounts for use with large and heavy cameras, telescopes, directional antennas, optics, lasers, tracking, and scanning systems.
These gimbal mounts are 400 millimeters wide by 480 millimeters high, weigh 50 kilograms and handle loads as heavy as 10 kilograms and the roll axis features a 90-millimeter thru hole for cables and optics.
The yaw (azimuth), pitch (angular elevation), and roll stages of the AU270-YPR feature high-precision rotary stages that measure 200 millimeters in diameter. The roll stage has a precision pattern of threaded holes for mounting tooling, cameras, and lasers, and a 90-millimeter through hole.
Devices as wide as 260 millimeters can mount on the roll stage. Each stage features V-groove and crossed roller bearings, and can rotate continuously 360 degrees driven by a 180:1 worm gear.
Motor options for these high-stability gimbal mounts include two phase-stepper motors (AU270-YPR-01), three-phase brushless servo motors with quadrature incremental optical encoders (AU270-YPR-02), DC servo motors with quadrature incremental optical encoders (AU270-YPR-03), or two-phase stepper motors with quadrature incremental optical encoders for position verification (AU270-YPR-04). Electrical connections are 9 pin DB-9 connectors.
The resolution of each stage is 0.001 degrees or 3.6 arc seconds with 10 micro-steps per step motor driver in use. Higher resolutions and travel speeds to 45 degrees per second are possible with the servo motor options.
An optional 450-by-450-millimeter aluminum plate with four handles and mounting holes for increased stability is available, and these three-axis gimbal mounts can be ordered as a complete plug-and-play system with a multi-axis motion controller, joystick, trackball, or keypad.
