MANSFIELD, Mass., 4 Oct. 2007. Murata Power Solutions in Mansfield, Mass., (formerly known as C&D's Power Electronic division) is offering 78SR Series 2A switching regulators for applications requiring 3.3-volt or 5-volt outputs, at 2 amps or less, from 8 to 32-volt inputs.

At a nominal 12-volt input, full-load efficiencies approach 96 percent for 5-volt models, and 93 percent for 3.3-volt models.

The 78SR switching regulators that operate at 12 volts input and 25 percent load (0.5 amps) deliver efficiencies of 90 percent for 5-volt models, and 87 percent for 3.3-volt models.

The 78SR Series switching regulators are available in two 0.8-by-0.85-inch package styles -- a standard vertical-mount SIP that occupies less than 0.09 square inches of board real estate, and a horizontal-mount version with an installed height of less than 0.30 inches for applications with height restrictions.

Both packages feature 0.025-inch square pins that support the units without additional hardware or mounting tabs.

The 78SR 2A Series has a 210 KHz switching frequency, optimized low-loss layout, and an open-frame construction. This allows for full-load operation from 9, 12, or 24 volts, supplies at ambient temperatures as hot as 70 degrees Celsius without heat sinks, forced-air cooling or temperature derating.

Applications include military and aerospace electronics; battery powered instruments; test equipment and fixtures; 12/24-volt automotive, marine, and recreational vehicles; industrial control instrumentation; and battery back-up power systems.
