NATO forces to employ Cobham vehicle-mounted IED detection systems
WIMBORNE, U.K., 16 March 2013. NATO officials recognized the need for advanced equipment to aid in detecting improvised explosive device (IED) threats. They found their solution at Cobham in Wimborne, U.K., issuing a NATO forces order for vehicle-mounted IED detection equipment.
“Cobham will deliver enhanced Counter-IED detection capabilities, which can be safely deployed from within the protection of mine-resistant ambush-protected (MRAP) vehicles,” explains Fred Cahill, vice president of Cobham Antenna Systems in the U.K. “These advanced systems are designed for the most demanding military requirements and complements existing technology which Cobham provides to protect lives and livelihoods.”
Cobham Antenna Systems engineers expect to fill the roughly ÂŁ16 million or $24 million order this year.
Cobham provides technologies and services—including air-to-air refueling, aviation services, defense electronics, life support and mission equipment, and audio, video, and data communications, including SATCOM—for commercial, defense, and security applications, from deep space to the depths of the ocean.
Cobham Antenna Systems designs and manufactures communication systems and antennas, providing communication, navigation, jamming, electronic warfare, telemetry, and radar antennas to major commercial aviation manufacturers and operators, major defense contractors, emergency response organizations, and law enforcement agencies. Cobham’s antenna technology for satellite communications, avionics, radar and surveillance applications connect military and commercial aircraft, naval vessels, vehicles, and mobile teams through high-speed data, voice, and video, including a range of products to satisfy every Inmarsat aeronautical application.
