Northrop Grumman wins $37 million to produce CANES for U.S. Navy

MANASSAS, Va., 2 Feb. 2012. Northrop Grumman Corp. (NYSE:NOC) in Manassas, Va., won a $37 million contract to produce the Consolidated Afloat Networks and Enterprise Services (CANES) system for the U.S. Navy. Northrop Grumman’s official Facebook page reveals: “We were awarded $37M by the U.S. Navy to produce CANES. If all options are exercised, the award [would] have a value of $638M. CANES will consolidate and modernize shipboard network systems to improve operational effectiveness and affordability across the fleet.”

In 2011, Northrop Grumman engineers completed the formal contractor system integration testing of its CANES system for the U.S. Navy. The purpose of the testing is to verify whether the Northrop Grumman CANES system meets program requirements and is ready for production and the limited deployment phase.

Northrop Grumman's CANES solution is designed to offer cost and performance improvements over existing shipboard networks, including a modernized C4ISR (command, control, communication, computers, intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance) architecture with increased security and reduced development, deployment, and life-cycle costs.

The Northrop Grumman CANES system was tested to evaluate the full spectrum of program requirements, including: significantly improved system management with integrated cyber security and the ability to host multiple mission applications in an operationally simulated afloat environment.
