High-performance rugged laptop computer for military applications introduced by GD Tadpole
CUPERTINO, Calif., 9 April 2010. Tadpole, a part of General Dynamics Itronix Corp., in Cupertino, Calif., is introducing the Tadpole TOPAZ rugged notebook computer for military power-users, first responders, and federal agents who require workstation-class applications with mobile-server performance.
Built from commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) technology, the lightweight, compact Tadpole TOPAZ rugged computer also supports network connectivity with multi-level security, as well as interoperability with fielded military computers and radios.
The rugged Tadpole TOPAZ has passed military-standard tests via MIL-STD-810F and MIL-STD-461E -- including exposure to high and low temperatures, shock and vibration extremes, and water resistance. Three segregated Ethernet ports enable operators to access networks operating at different information security levels.
The rugged notebook has as much as eight gigabytes DDR3 SDRAM solid-state memory; a 15.1-inch DynaVue sunlight-viewable display with optional touch screen; is compatible with Windows, Linux and Solaris software applications; has an integrated trusted platform module (TPM) V1.2; is tested to MIL-STD-810F and MIL-STD-461E; has type I, II, and III PCCARD/PCMCIA expansion slots; measures 2.4 inches high, 15 inches wide, and 12.4 inches deep; and weighs 11 pounds with battery.
"Warfighters responsible for battlespace air traffic control need the computing horsepower to support airspace management programs with a workstation display that supports 3D imagery and mapping without scrolling around to see the entire picture," says David Miles, marketing manager for General Dynamics Itronix Tadpole products.
