Unmanned underwater vehicle (UUV) for long-endurance persistent surveillance use introduced by Kongsberg

KONGSBERG, Norway – The Kongsberg Gruppen Maritime segment in Kongsberg, Norway, is introducing the HUGIN Endurance unmanned underwater vehicle (UUV) for persistent surveillance missions far from shore that last as long as 15 days.

The company also has added its Maritime Broadband Radio (MBR) communications system to HUGIN Endurance’s payload, enabling it to surface and share large quantities of data swiftly with another vessel, a shore station, or a wind turbine fitted with an MBR antenna.

The UUV can perform long-range military surveys; wide-area mine detection, classification and identification, or patrolling a choke point listening for submarines.

The long-endurance UUV can be equipped with sensors like the high-resolution KONGSBERG HiSAS synthetic aperture sonar, a wide swath multibeam echo sounder, sub-bottom profiler and magnetometer. It can detect methane, current, and turbidity.

The unmanned submarine can perform situational awareness scanning, mapping, and inspection for applications such as offshore wind farms.
