MIDDLETOWN, Ohio, 7 June 2013. NuWaves Ltd. in Middletown, Ohio, is introducing the NuPower NW-BSSPA-10W-1.0-2.5 Xtender bidirectional L- and S-band power amplifier module for use with half-duplex RF transceivers running constant-envelope waveforms.
The NW-BSSPA-10W-1.0-2.5 power electronics device is based on the NuPower broadband, high-efficiency, miniature power amplifier modules, and provides a minimum of 10 Watts peak RF output power and 40 dB of gain with 30 percent average power efficiency from 1000 MHz to 2500 MHz.
Adjacent radio frequency bands, such as the popular 900 MHz industrial, scientific and medical (ISM) band, also are supported by the bidirectional power amplifier, at lower peak power levels.
The NuPower Xtender is compact and rugged. Its nickel-plated aluminum chassis occupies 3 by 2 by 1.15 inches and weighs less than six ounces for integration into small platforms like group 2 and group 3 unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs).
The unit has automatic transmit sensing circuitry providing nearly instantaneous switching between receive and transmit modes, on the order of 1 microsecond. The Xtender’s maximum noise figure of 3 dB helps improve receive performance of the communication system.
